Wow, what a great adventure! We boarded Seabourn Quest in Manaus, Brazil — right in the heart of the Amazon — with dear friends Pat & Noel. We experienced the power of the Amazon River and the beauty of the rainforest before entering the Atlantic Ocean. Devil’s Island (where “Papillon” was imprisoned) was very interesting and terribly remote. The Atlantic crossing was smooth and Seabourn kept things interesting. Across the “pond,” we visited several Cape Verde islands before visiting a number of Canary Islands (named for dogs, not birds, by the way), where trekking to an ancient volcanic caldera and visiting the World Heritage town of La Laguna were among our trip highlights. We enjoyed the stop in Tangier, Morocco and our day spent wandering in the ancient Medina (market) and Kasbah. Our final stop was Monte Carlo, Monaco. Over 24 days, we visited wonderful, interesting ports and enjoyed the Quest, a delightful small ship (400 passengers).
