Discovering Berlin, Dresden and the Green Vault

Bob, having grown up in communist Hungary, thought the Berlin Wall would never come down in his lifetime. We were shocked and amazed when it came down in 1989, and we finally went to visit Berlin for the first time in June 2018 with friends Ron and Sherri. It is a beautiful city, and we enjoyed seeing architecture from all its phases. Diana was particularly delighted with the many hidden courtyards, which are wonderful public spaces. We were all blown away by the incredible archeological treasures in Berlin’s many first-rate museums, including the Ishtar Gate of Babylon (575 BCE). We took a day trip to Dresden, which has been completely rebuilt, after having been devastated by Allied bombing in WWII. There, we were fascinated by the many treasures in the Green Vault — in our eyes, they rivaled those we saw in the Kremlin Armory (treasure house).

After spending a week in Berlin, the four of us traveled to Corfu, Greece, where friends Nancy and Evan joined us for a week-long cruise aboard the sailing yacht Obsession. Come along on our visit … here is Bob’s short video, with still photos below.
